Mirror Complexity (0 comments)

I dropped my car off for an oil change at the local Subaru dealership last summer and when I picked it up, the rearview mirror was cracked. The dealership replaced it for free, and shortly after, I found a piece of the old mirror's plastic housing underneath my seat. It had four patent numbers printed on it; I looked them up this morning and learned quite a bit about how my auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated compass works.

  1. 5255442: Vehicle compass with electronic sensor
  2. 5532092: Edge raggedness and background removal by post development member
  3. 5644351: Thermal gradation printing apparatus
  4. 5802727: Compensation system for electronic compass

I had no idea it was so complicated.
