Etymology (6 comments)

This appeared not too long ago on a campus mailing list:

Web Blog

Web Services will release a more traditional Web Blog tool in late February for Public Affairs. This tool will have archiving and a more article based presentation compared to the Discussion Board.

That would appear to add another step to the etymology of "blog:"

  1. web log
  2. weblog
  3. blog
  4. web blog?

Based on this turn of events, here is my prediction for the etymological path the term will take over the next few months:

  1. web 2.0 blog
  2. world wide web 2.0 blog
  3. www2blog
  4. log
