Tut (6 comments)
Mel and I joined Chas and Sarah to see The Field Museum's exhibition of Tutanhkamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. Despite the presence of Tut's death mask on all of the advertising materials, it was notably absent from the collection on display, along with most everything that one would expect to see at a Tut-centric exhibit. Without the death mask or his sarcophagus, it ended up being a show of trinkets found alongside everything we've seen on TV -- very disappointing.
As part of my trip, I met Sebby for lunch at Sal & Carvão. While tasty, it doesn't stand up very well to my churrascaria expectations from Fogo de Chão. Sal & Carvão served cheaper beef that could have used another round of trimming, and none of their meat seemed to be seasoned as well. The salad bar was a far cry from Fogo's, but I suspect it's not fair to compare their lunch salad bar to Fogo's dinnertime offerings.
Sal & Carvão did redeem themselves a little bit with a skillet of macaroni and cheese.
Deficiencies aside, it was still well worth $24.50 for an all-you-can-eat lunch. It's just not Fogo.
