Depp as Wonka

Mel doesn't often want to come to movies with me, but she was excited for Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. It turns out that I'm on the side of the divide where we like it more than Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Depp did a great job of convincing me that he'd had a screwed up enough childhood to be unable to interact with people on a normal level, reminiscent of Edward Scissorhands (funny, that). There were some touching scenes and I cried, especially the ending. The movie ended with a pair of "I didn't see that coming" moments. Very cute. Mel and I disagree on our favorite lines, but for me, it's this one from the trailers:

"I'm Violet Beauregarde."

"I don't care."
