Beating a Dead Shark (3 comments)

Beating a dead shark, metaphor.
The process through which a television show, having already jumped the shark, continually and repeatedly incorporates plot devices that could be viewed as shark jumpings on their own merits.

Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda clearly jumped the shark when Kevin Sorbo was allowed to dictate the show's direction, but they've continued to beat the dead shark with Rhade's replacement of Tyr, Doyle's replacement of Rommie, Dylan's ascension, and everything that happens in season five.
