Everyone else in my group is off learning about Solaris 10. I opted out since all of the topics were the same as I saw covered at LISA. That, and I've got some work to do. So far nothing's happened (excepting the mail routing infrastructure going partially offline for patching, but that was intentional) and I'm noticing it's late and I'm hungry. Maybe Golden Wok today? Probably La Bamba. It's closer.

I got a new toy at work yesterday. The Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD is very pretty, though I'm not using it all. It turns out that the nVidia FX5200 video card I'm using can't drive 1920x1200 over DVI. It works on the VGA port, but it doesn't look as pretty, so I'm using it at 1600x1200 letterboxed until I can replace the video card. Poor me, eh?

Yarr, there be a new Pope! I'm not sure why I felt that should be pirate, but it's too late now.

I'm not a big follower of the politics of the Catholic church, but I don't like what I'm reading about the new guy. Along with the traditional Catholic stances on female inferiority and sexual inflexibility, Financial Times has an interesting description of his voracity for punishing those who sought to moderate John Paul II's implacable traditionalism:

The choice of the silver-haired, mild-mannered German is certainly controversial. Ahead of the conclave supporters of the cardinal argued that he represented continuity with the late Pope's conservative agenda and with his concentration of power in the Vatican.

They pointed to his intellectual and theological brilliance (he has written over 40 books), his linguistic skills (he speaks ten languages) and stressed that - despite charges of being the Pope's 'Grand Inquisitor', or even 'God's Rotweiler'- he is in fact a warm-hearted, spiritual man.

how old testament.
