Halo 2 Blows (5 comments)

I forgot to mention last time that I had a chance to play Halo 2 while I was in the suburbs last week. I came to the conclusion that it's a horrible game. I went into the experience trying to be open minded. It's obvious that a gamepad is a horrible control interface for a shooter game, so I put that aside and looked at the rest of the game. I didn't see anything worth noting. The vehicles were cute, but the level design was uninteresting. I didn't find the artwork particularly impressive, and there seemed to be no attempt at weapon balance. I know that I'm not practiced in using those weapons, but 60 hits with submachine guns should beat one hit from a sword. I'd pass myself off as an anti-X-Box snob, but it seems that I'm not alone in thinking it's not living up to the hype.

I made the mistake yesterday of reading some more about the OpenBSD packet filter. Now that it works in FreeBSD, it seems like a good idea for me to put FreeBSD on my dual Pentium Pro and replace guide.

I've been getting more exercise than usual lately because of my involvement in the assembly of the CSE/CSAR G5 Xserve supercomputer. Benoc has a page about it with a live webcam.
