S-Video Gotcha (2 comments)
I'm getting my vintage equipment rewired using more modern (non-RF) video cabling. I ran into a problem using my new video selector, though. It's not a problem with the selector, but rather my television. Since I wanted to use both composite and S-Video inputs to the selector, I ran both sorts of cable from the selector's output jacks to the TV. S-Video on the GameCube worked magnificently, but when I switched to the NES, with its composite video signal, it appeared on the screen in black and white. Unplugging the S-Video input from the TV gave a color picture. I guess I'll need a separate video selector for S-Video devices and composite. Right now, the NES is happily hooked up to the composite-only TV input (on the front), but the Japanese Playstation has no place to go.
I had to expand the power strip capabilities behind the entertainment center as well. Sadly, I forgot to take the picture, but I took a six-jack (two columns of three) power strip and outfitted it entirely with power strip jumper cables from 9th tee. Now it looks very Medusa and all the wall-wort style DC convertors can work without getting in the way of other devices.
The biggest problem is that I'll probably need more furniture to hold this when it's all in place. Sadly, Ikea doesn't offer an open-backed shelving unit to match the TV stand.
I know, my life sucks.
