Good Food Bad News (7 comments)

I'm home sick today. Mel was sick last week and I started feeling the same symptoms last night. It was worse when I got up at 5:00 this morning and patched my production systems, so I decided to call it a sick day. I got up a little before 1:00 to find a /msg from Mel on IRC reporting that she'd just left work to bring me lunch.

When she got home, she told me she'd brought me pad thai and that she'd been fired this morning.

This, of course, sucks. But I'm particularly displeased with it because the highest-ups at NexVu decided to let her go (along with their entire QA team) to try and curb the monetary hemorraging that had nothing to do with any of the people who lost their jobs today. Mel's been complaining for quite some time that they fly the sales team (including the company president) all over the country to try and woo customers while they're not making any sales. Worse is that they've refused to fly frugally or stay in budget hotels. Collectively, they've probably spent Mel's salary a few times over in airline and hotel upgrades this year while not making a single sale.

But really, that's all irrelevant now. People have been foolish and other people have been punished in their place; now we're working on finding Mel a better job and NexVu's Champaign office is throwing a rod at the expection of covering for Mel and writing the company's documentation in addition to their already 60-hour weeks making the product work well enough that it can be sold (qualifier on sales team competence).

But I'm still home sick, so while she finds job leads, I'm going to see about that pad thai she brought home.
