Signal Strength: 100 (7 comments)

I've had an exhausting day. I got up early to mow house's lawn before Mel's mom got into town, and while they shopped, I took it upon myself to setup the DirecTV dish. I devised a few plans, most of which were fatally flawed, but after a phone call to my dad, decided on one that wasn't nearly so bad. It's ugly, but that's only because the mounting board needs trimming and painting. Once I got it hooked up, I started into the setup procedure in the receiver. No signal was detected. After some dead end investigation, I found myself reading the manual and noticed a note telling me I'd done the up/down tilt part of the dish aiming entirely incorrectly. I fixed that and now my signal strength is up to 100%.

I still need a working phone line to activate my DirecTV subscription, though, and that seems to be waiting on SBC at the moment. The phone line was allegedly installed last week, but I didn't take a phone over until today. I couldn't get a dial tone, but that may have something to do with my impending DSL installation. It's hard to say.

Also arriving on Monday is the couch we bought from Kelsey Furniture in Tuscola on Friday. Stuff there is cheap. I continue to be pleased.

Now it's time for a shower. I can only imagine what the crawlspace has done to my hair (I was trying to track down a phone line to steal and install in the datacenter).
