I'm a Winner! (0 comments)

With a little help from Sarah, I convinced Aaron to drive to St. Louis this morning for AMD's Extreme Performance Project's latest stop. We left a little after 2:00 AM CST, and got there a little before 6. Tickets were distributed, and numbers were drawn at 6:15 for 50 new Athlon XP 1800 processors and motherboards to match. Sadly, nobody in our posse was selected as a CPU winner, but three of our five got t-shirts, and in addition to the shirt, I caught a coffee cup they threw over the crowd. Who's a winner? Looks like it's me.

Part of the fun of the trip was being sleep deprived. When the AMD rep first started talking about their reasons for the trip, he mentioned that a certain company wants consumers to believe that MHz is the only measure of a chip's performance. Being a bit too tired to maintain my usual introversion, I yelled "they're liars!" and everybody laughed, except for one guy who had to wait for a few seconds before he realized I was talking about Intel. I was hoping that the guy with the microphone would give me a CPU/motherboard combo on the spot for demonstrating my acute knowledge of processor internals and marketing, but that didn't happen. It's his loss. I'm just not quite sure why.
