ck's archive: linux local root exploit

I was going to get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight, but slashdot had to run a story about a newly-discovered Linux exploit that allows normal users to gain root (superuser) access. Luckily, I'm a smooth p1mp, so all my systems (some as far away as Creve Coeur) came back online with the new kernel installed and everything's fine.
