Wing (8 comments)

Aaron was good enough to take me out to the local Subaru dealership this morning to test drive a 2003 Impreza WRX. My salesman drove the car off the lot, and seemed really uncomfortable with the manual transmission. We drove across the shopping complex parking lots and he let me take the wheel, at which point Aaron moved to the front seat and the sales consultant got in the back. It was fun, easy driving. I had some fun scaring the sales guy when we went from the country roads back to Neil street. The right turn I was supposed to take fell downhill coming off the train tracks. I'd just downshifted to first when the light changed, so I punched it and took the corner hard. My sales consultant made a funny sound and slid across the back seat a bit, but it was a neat demonstration of the all wheel drive and the turbocharger working together.

I also looked at (but didn't drive) a used 2002 they had on the lot. I was afraid when I heard on the phone that it had an aftermarket carbon fiber wing, but it's not too bad. It looks a lot like the spoilers that subaru puts on the Imprezas in other countries, not nearly as rice-ish as I'd feared. I could handle driving that car (with wing) for $3,000 less than the one I test drove. We'll see.

update - 9:44 PM I found clearer photo of a similar wing when looking for evidence that could be used in arguing a price down with the dealer.
