The Guide is Online. (0 comments)

After another kernel recompilation, I finally got the right mix of PPP options to do Ameritech DSL in Linux (via Roaring Penguin PPPoE). Iptables is working, so the machine is now my gateway to the internet. It seems speedier for the NAT'd machines and no longer do some pages simply not appear (as was the case using Windows Internet Connection Sharing under XP). The machine (to be named guide) is running a caching nameserver, so I just need to setup DHCP and put it someplace more permanent than the middle of the study and I'll be done with this project. I already feel better having a Linux box with one open port (SSH) facing the internet instead of Windows XP ("XP" is short for "you can break into me anytime you want").

Mel got her copy of The Sims Unleashed last week, and now our family has a cute kitty. I told Mel that she'd need to have a Sim kitty for a while before we could talk about a real kitty. So far, she's less than optimistic with the amount of attention our Sim kitty is requiring.
