Component Creme Miata (3 comments)

That was a long weekend. On Friday, Aaron invited a few people to his dorm room for a night of light drinking and complaining about how small dorm rooms are. As it turned out, we had a great time talking about a wide variety of subjects and sampling various fine liquors. Aaron had a Super Nintendo emulator running, and Mel and I ended up playing a bit of Super Mario World.

Earlier in the evening, Aaron had taken us out shopping, as he had decided to purchase a wireless ethernet card for the aforementioned laptop. We went to Best Buy, where I was given an opportunity to invest some more money into my Playstation 2. I ended up picking up two more games (Gran Turismo 3 and Madden 2003), a second controller, two more memory cards, and a controller extension cable (Mel moved the couch back when I got the big TV). Mel picked up a copy of Nascar Thunder 2002, so we now have four games, three of which are driving games.

Aaron came over Saturday evening to prepare creme brulee for the next day's Good Eats affair, and subsequently became addicted to Gran Turismo 3. he and I raced for a few hours, trying out different cars and courses, and forwent our previous plans to watch Mullholland Dr.

Sunday, it was time for Alton Brown. Mel and I set up three TVs in the living room: one for GT 3, one for Good Eats, and one for the Nascar race. Aaron and I each started a single player game of GT 3, buying Miatas and winning races to earn money to upgrade them. Right now, Mine has gone from 116 to 182 horsepower with various modifications, and I'm wondering why I didn't just save up for a better car. Mel made a wonderful chicken & garlic potato lunch, followed by Aaron's creme brulee and some italian garlic bread with various olive oils and breads, and we were most entertained by the various CRTs adorning the room. Jeff Gordon ended up winning the race, Alton Brown amazed us with his cooking knowledge, and Aaron and I both became better drivers, so everyone was happy.

And then yesterday, my parents dropped by to see the apartment and take us out to dinner. They wanted to buy me a housewarming present, but the only thing I could think of was another PS 2 controller extension cable, so I got one. Following was a hotly-contested trivia match at Damon's where I was logged off by a trivia console with the same ID just as I was securing the lead. With me out of the picture, Mel managed to edge out my mother for the win.

My parents brought with them my stereo and Super Nintendo. And this morning, the friendly UPS man stopped by with the component video cable and DVD remote I ordered for my PS 2 from Amazon. While I was doing the cabling for that, I hooked up the Super Nintendo so Mel could practice Super Mario World when she gets home. The DVD picture from the PS 2 looks much better than it did using the composite video cable, so I might have to take Aaron up on Mulholland Dr. sometime in the near future.
