Our telephone service was working when I woke up this morning. We did indeed end up with 217-DRUG-GET. I had a slightly frustrating conversation with an Ameritech operator, who couldn't explain a two week wait between land line and DSL installation except that they're "doing upgrades to the system." I hate it when people lie to me. As it is, they won't flip the magical switch to enable DSL to my apartment until september 12th.
It turns out that not too long ago, my cell phone number belonged to a construction worker. I got a call from a friend of his last week, and this morning, I got a call from the Lincoln Square Mall, asking if I wanted to handle their snow removal again this winter. Both of them were pretty nice when I explained that the number is no longer his, but I wonder how often this will happen.
