New Eddie/Excellent Driver/New Job (3 comments)
Eddie has been reborn! Like the phoenix, rising from its own ashes, the machine that dropped out of production due to a bad power supply has been transformed into something that's powerful enough that I don't expect I'll need to upgrade it for a very long time. Here's a rundown on the new eddie:
- Two 1.2 GHz AMD Athlon MP processors
- Tyan TigerMP (s2460) mainboard
- 512 MB registered DDR2100 266 MHz RAM
- Antec 1060sx black case (with four 80mm case fans!)
- Two Globalwin SAK38 CPU coolers
- 40 GB 7200 RPM ATA/100 IBM Deskstar hard drive
- Intel pro/100s ethernet adaptor
That's more than I should need in the forseeable future, and that's good. It should curb my spending, at least until I have enough free cash to put an Ultra160 RAID setup in it.
On the non-eddie side of the news, I had some fun driving the red Housing van yesterday (aka the big red love rocket). When approaching the stop sign on First and Gregory, the brake pedal stopped resisting my pushing and went right to the floor. I managed to not hit anything (thought I had to blow a stop sign) even got the van into its correct parking spot. That marks the first time I've ever driven with no brakes. It seems I've been taking them for granted for the past few years.
Mel seems to have found herself a job. Not only does that mean she gets money, it means that she can use that money to get a place to live where I can live, too. We're apartment hunting tonight!
