Hardware (2 comments)

I think I've discovered the reason for entropy's flakiness. With the 425 watt power supply I have installed, the "auto" setting in the motherboard's BIOS ends up delivering too much voltage to the CPU. Over time, that tends to hurt the chip. I dropped the voltage and it appears to be running fine at 1333 MHz, but 1400 no longer works.

Were that not enough, zaphod is showing its age. it was having some trouble with the realtime clock, and when I rebooted it, it started complaining about its BIOS not checksumming correctly. This leaves me in an interesting position. Rick's wife, Christine is looking to sell her old Linux box. I have to decide whether I want to get that and put zaphod's hard drive in it and leave it as zaphod or whether I want to replace zaphod with eddie earlier than I'd planned. Zaphod's still surviving (and serving my website), so I have time to decide.
