Moving to SSD (0 comments)
I got a pair of 128 GB solid state disks when Woot had them on sale last month. My intent was to use them to replace the system disk in each of the Windows machines at home. By combining the powers of Windows' native disk management, system image backups and the GParted Live CD, I was able to shrink each C: drive to under 100 GB, back it up, restore it onto the SSD, and then expand the volume to fill the new disk.
My machine has enough games installed that it couldn't all fit on the new disk. As such, I ended up removing my Steam games, reinstalling Steam on a dedicated (spinning) disk, and re-downloading everything that I'm presently playing or have queued up to play soon:

The peak speed is an error, but the 130 GB of downloads is accurate. I have to say, it's very much preferable to reinstalling each of those 60 games individually.
On the other side of modern software licensing, both Windows and Photoshop noticed a change in hardware sufficient to require manual reactivation. Windows wasn't bad, but due to a prior Windows reinstall, I'd hit the activation limit on my Photoshop license. Adobe's tech support resolved the problem nicely, but I'm always frustrated by copy protection that only serves to annoy paying customers.
