Mel Meets My Family (8 comments)
So I'm home (as in East Peoria) for the weekend to celebrate my Dad's birthday. That means that I get to do the computer work. I just wiped Windows XP from the faster computer here and put Win2K on it because my Dad's scanners don't come with drivers; just hacked up install programs that don't support XP.
Of course, I don't have a car on campus, so going home requires that I be picked up at school. My Mom's ok with that, especially if it means that she can use the opportunity to meet my girlfriend. Once I told my Mom that Mel could join us, word quickly spread to Indiana and my sister made plans to meet us in Champaign. We all made it to Chili's and had some dinner and conversation. I noticed my Dad didn't get any food, and assumed he wasn't feeling well (it's happened before). While we were still eating, though, he and my Mom elected to go to the emergency room because he was feeling chest pains and tingling in his left arm. The doctors decided that he doesn't have any cardiac problems. just some acid reflux. Drugs were prescribed, and hopefully the problem will go away. But now I have to convince Mel that he wasn't just faking a heart attack to get away from our conversation. it shouldn't be tough, given that I'm telling the truth and all.
My sister's happier than I've seen her in quite some time. it appears that I did well in finding a girl. so now that my family likes Mel, and her IMSA family likes me, I guess we're allowed to like each other?
